Movie review:Lemony Snicket's S-U-E

Thursday, March 10, 2005

This is a most unfortunate movie to have been ever made and worst still, viewed by me. Looks sure can be deceiving. When i first saw the poster, i went "this is a show i must catch", because my intuition told me it would be a worthy catch. I realised my gut feeling isn't all that accurate. Bad feeling! First the show begins with a ludicrious snippet of a happy elf and his antics, and I wondered if I was in the right cinema XD.After the silly cartoon of approximately 2 mins, was a prologue where Lemony Snicket voiced, as he typed the story of the unlucky Baudelaires. The voice of Mr Snicket was played by Jude Law, and i guess the only parts I liked were the parts where Mr snicket's thoughts would be voiced out loud narrated by the soothing voice of Jude Law.It was a pity that this show was made in America and count Olaff had to be played by Jim Carrey with his out-of-place american accent. An english accent would have accent-uated the setting of the movie.Making it more realistic as the set was decked with houses and mansions which didn't look too american.More english actaully.I don't understand myself but i find the english accent rather sophisticated.Although I must add that Jim Carrey is one versatile actor sliding into his role perfectly as the guy-whom-everyone-hates.Haha.His ostentatious performance is commendable due to the fact that he plays a stage actor in the film.Hence his gestures have to be wildly exaggerated. The way he speaks moves etc. The three young stars who play the orphaned baudaliers after their parents are killed in a fire pull off their roles as though they were puppets. The inventor sister may seem the smart person in precarious situations in the film, coming up with ingenious contraptions to wiggle them three out of life-dangling situations but it is easy to notice that everything has been planned out too nicely till the show becomes one which is predictable. This defeats the entire purpose of the director who tries building up suspense. It is wacky for the youngest baudalier known as a monkey/primate to be able to bite like a termite when he/she/it is still teething at that age...The only sane and realistic character would be the brother who memorises books like books, and is able to sieve out useful theoretical information in times of need. The other characters played their roles decently enough but the person whom i find most foolish in the movie would be the oprhans' litigator who still thinks that what kids say are like wind to the ears.He however, is the more ignorant and gullible of the lot.If he had paid more attention to what the baudalier kids have to say, there would have no need for Lemony Snicket to pen a series of unfortunate events.Instead it would be titled an unfortunate event which would most probabaly last 15 mins and then there would be no need for millions to be spent on creating a failed movie. The bouncy lawyer though insignificant is in fact the crux of the movie.Without him, there would be no yada yada yada of events which would lead to a 1h40 min show.If there was someone to blame for this failure it would be the scriptwriter-cum-author who based his movie on two of his books and turned it into a skimpy and banal film faux pas.It would have been more amusing if the movie showed how Mr Snicket is stoned to death by director Brad Silberling. In conclusion, i stoically believe the plot of the movie is to be faulted.Haha.

PS:This review or should i say critique of the movie is wholly biased and those who view this are entitled to their own views and shall not look me up to debate this paltry issue.
To give Mr silberling some credit, the show is meant for kids, played by kids and kiddy adults respectively hence the plot may seem kiddy but it sure is meant for those who allow their grey matter to remain stagnant and rot.

JAE-mission arh-comp-bish

Frustrations well up along the tips of my fingers as i click the dotty mouse...i ponder and re- ponder hitting the previous button many a time(rmb the back button shld not be hit for ur info or the entire registration session will be terminated) Yeah, after much contemplation,i picked ac as the jc of my choice(needless to say).Haha.Hope this is wad God planned it out to be.

FYI, my life has been one of decadence recently.Venting my displeasure on my wallet.Spending up to an averag eof $50 a day...At this rate i will have a -bleeping- hole in my pocket.Anyway a simple outline of how wasted my life has been will give u an idea of how very apathetic I have been towards all the starved and malnutritioned beings sharing the same periphery as asia...Arh there i go the load of CRAP!

On thurs i went to play pool, and chalked up $20,then on Friday i went out with Jermaine(which happens to be a guy) and BIBU,the ever lovable porcine...hehe...we spent$7.50 on a most incoherent anime-Howl's moving castle...But i gotta give credit to the artist's brilliant efforts at drawing...Happy now whoever u are?At least im not all out to condemn u...*Roar like a lion/tiger does* FAST FORWARD.Had lunch at subway(stupidly i only requested olives and cool-cumbers for my sandwich when i cld have asked for all the veggies)..tHAT was irrelevant..next went to the esplanade for a walk, ended up in the library for 30 seconds, then traipsed off to marina to bowl. The games there are friggin cheap.$1 a game...By my standards i was darn good. This is due to the relativity of the situation...my other two competitors weren't so proficient at rolling a ball and knocking down some wooden blocks...hence the ultimate thrashing. Last but not least went to a "sophisticated" restaurant-pub which Jermaine claims to be.It's called GRAPEVINE if im not wrong...by the time we got there it was already 2030hrs,GK met us a little later for dinner, and i ended up reaching home like 11 plus.Of course i was chided for my tardiness...Bleagh...Oh i havent given my take on the food...i had honey glazed pork ribs, which was a wrong choice coz it was 70% bones 5% fats and 25%meat.it was no epicurean delight but it was decent enough to satiate my palate...haha..hope Jermaine's glad to hear that...Splurged $20 on the meal...Sigh...im gonna end up a pauper...but that's wad i will be in the future anyway owing to my mediocre results.Period(Bibu's conception of a fullstop->.)

ThAT'S all folks...await for the next episode of captain kwek's adventures...wAhahaha

The New Past

I dunno if I should be blogging since i got a Stoopid B3 for eng...It may affect ur standards, reading my ghastly pieces...

wARNING:read at ur own risk!!!

It seems like only yesterday.Trooping into class with heads bowed low buried in the drool-stained pages of the textbook. This mundane routine was carried out reluctantly for 15 grim days. The day of liberation finally came and fleeted by.Transient images of our SS textbooks, iridiscent but familiar pictures of the swiss flag, palace of nations in Genova...Haha...I may sound absurd but i really missed those days, tell me u don't.I need a reality check.Lol.Im sure the bittersweet memories of mugging will somehow haunt us and say, "I will be back...in 2 years...muahahaha..."Yeah! but on the day when we reckoned, our future beckoned. The 28th of Feb is a most ironic day. Some want to cast it to the nether world while others felt like they descended to heaven...Unfortunately for me i want to forget this devastating day.I feel so lost all over again.Im truly beginning to believe in my theory that my intelligence curve is that of a 1/e^X curve. My intelligence is inversely proportional to my age that is.Haha.Anyway i still have to thank the many pple who aided me in my o'S crusade. My parents, teachers who supported and mentored me showing great patience and friends who kept me going. Last and most importantly, GOD our holy saviour who kept me safe from harm...Anyway to those who did not achieve what they wanted, there's always the A levels. The o's are juz a key into a jc...Its the future which counts most...Ahead...March...Left right left right left right left....
